[January 31, 2013]  BLOOMINGTON -- Miller Park Zoological Society is gearing up for its 16th annual Miller Park Zoo Stampede. This 5K run, 3K walk and a quarter-mile fun run for children 10 and under is the first event on the Lake Run Club circuit for the year and a favorite for zoo and running enthusiasts.

The 5K, winding through Miller Park and the adjoining neighborhood, is accurately measured and electronically timed by the running club. It is mostly flat with a few rolling hills.

The 5K starts at 10 a.m., followed by the 3K walk. Participants who register prior to Feb. 14 will receive a T-shirt. The quarter-mile fun run starts at 9:30 a.m., and everyone receives a medal. All participants are invited to stop back at the zoo to visit the animals.

Stampede registration can be completed online at www.mpzs.org. The preregistration fee for the 5K and 3K is $25, with a $2 discount for members of the Lake Run Club or Miller Park Zoological Society. Same-day registration is $35. The fee for the quarter-mile fun run is $5. Check-in and same-day registration is from 8 to 9:15 a.m. race day at the Miller Park Pavilion.
