Stauffer family benefit Feb. 3 at Chestnut Family Restaurant

Several hundred friends, neighbors and well-wishers from Chestnut, Mount Pulaski, Beason and other surrounding towns enjoyed a delicious brunch benefit-fundraiser to help the Mount Pulaski Dave and Cynthia Stauffer family contend with the expenses of ongoing T-cell lymphoma treatments for their 7-year-old, Michael. His prognosis has been reported to be excellent if he undergoes all the treatments at their regularly scheduled appointment times during the next several years.

The very delicious help-yourself selections were pancakes, sausage, bacon, egg casserole, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, whole corn, green beans, fresh strawberries and a California fruit salad -- completed with a yummy assortment of desserts.

The Chestnut Fire and EMS provided the plastic and paper goods as well as assisted in the setup, serving and cleanup. The Bank of Chestnut provided the fried chicken; Mary Hamilton helped with the bacon and sausage; Jo Richner provided the fruit; and Daren Stoll provided the milk and juice supplies. Chestnut Family Restaurant owner and operator Caesar Andrade also received a big assist from local resident Michelle Hagenbuch, who coordinated the effort.

Andrade's daughter, Lupita, is a classmate with Michael at the Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran School. Andrade moved quickly to host this benefit in his restaurant because "it is the right thing to do," he said.
