ZLS Lady Eagles are Jacksonville tournament champions

[February 13, 2013]  JACKSONVILLE -- The Zion Lutheran Lady Eagles basketball team won the championship of the Jacksonville-Salem Lutheran tournament last weekend.

The Lady Eagles defeated Concordia Lutheran of Springfield in the first game, on Friday, by the score of 43-17. Hailie Williams led Zion with 23 points. Also scoring for ZLS were Tori Tripplett with six points, Brooklyn Hermes and Gabbie Cox with four each, and Danielle Burgrabe, Lauren Canady and Madelyn Koehler with two each.

In the Saturday afternoon game, Zion won 42-18 against Good Shepherd Lutheran of Pekin. Williams and Hermes were the leading scorers with 10 points each. Also scoring for ZLS were Katie Hunsley with seven points, Canady with six, Koehler with three, and Anna Sielaff, Burgrabe and Cox with two each.

Zion Lutheran faced the host school, Jacksonville-Salem Lutheran, in the championship game Saturday evening and won 63-32. Williams had 29 points, Hunsley 13, Sielaff and Burgrabe each contributed eight, and Hermes added five.

The Lady Eagles will participate in a tournament in Lincoln on Feb. 23-24.
