LCHS speech team places 4th at IHSA regional

[February 09, 2013]  The Lincoln Community High School speech team placed fourth last weekend at the IHSA individual events regional tournament in Lincoln.

Senior Wyatt Phillips and junior Matthew Langdon were dual regional champions, in humorous duet acting and dramatic duet acting.

Of the 11 events LCHS entered, 10 will move on to sectional competition Saturday in Charleston.

Additional finalists were senior Sara Shane, third in oratorical declamation and fourth in radio speaking; senior Tegan Follis, fourth in poetry reading and fifth in dramatic interpretation; junior Madison Bishop, third in original comedy and fourth in impromptu speaking; senior Jacqueline Keysear, fourth in original oratory; and senior Kendall Katz, third in humorous interpretation.

Also placing at the regional was junior Konnor Browne, fifth in prose reading.

"The kids have worked very hard this week, improving and preparing for sectional competition," said head coach Jennifer Keith.

"The top 72 of each event perform at six sectionals across the state this Saturday," she continued, "and the top 18 from there will move forward to Peoria next weekend.

"We'd love to have a great group of students move forward."

The team has been coached this season by Keith and assistants Abigail Curry, Elizabeth Buttell Landes and Elizabeth Jaegle.
