ELKHART -- Albert Durchholz, 89, of
Elkhart, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at 1:15 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in
Lincoln.

Elkhart- Albert Durchholz, 89, of Elkhart passed
away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 1:15 p.m. St.
Clara's Manor in Lincoln.
A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held on
Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart with Rev. Simon
Taabu officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peasley Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. until 10:00
a.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
A Rosary Service will be held at 4:45 p.m. prior to
the visitation.
Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.
Albert Durchholz was born on October 2, 1923 in
Latham the son of Maurice Frank and Mary Margaret
Roberts Durchholz. He married Agnes Marie
Fitzgibbons on July 23, 1951 in Elkhart. She
survives.
Also surviving are his six children: Robert A. of
Elkhart, Cecelia A. (Mike) Durst of Columbia, S.C.,
Jeanne M. (Rick) Born of Columbia, S.C., Gary A. (Alicia)of
Williamsville, Daniel (Teresa) of Elkhart, Nancy K.
Durchholz of Maroa. Twelve Grandchildren, Four Great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one
brother: Frederick Durchholz which was killed during
WWII in France, one granddaughter: Maura Durchholz.

Albert graduated from the Elkhart High School in
1941. He began farming as a boy and continued
farming his entire life.
In addition, during WWII, he worked at the Sangamon
Ordnance Plant, ammunition factory near Illiopolis.
He had special interest in sports, and coached his
children in little league baseball. He was lifelong
and avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and followed
University of Illinois basketball teams.
He was a long-time Logan County Farm Bureau Board
member and served as a member of the Elkhart School
System. He was known for his expertise in Illinois
Watch Company railroad-grade pocket watches and was
an original member of the Illinois Watch Company
Collectors Association.
Later in life, Albert converted to Catholicism,
becoming Catholic in 2011.
In addition to being a loving husband and beloved
father, grandfather and great grandfather, Albert
was a trusted and loyal friend to many. He did not
know a stranger. He loved life, his family and will
be forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be
made to St. Patrick's Church of Elkhart or to the
American Stroke Association.
