 Who: Author Bruce Levine, history professor at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.What: Levine will discuss
his book "The Fall of the House of Dixie: The Civil War and the
Social Revolution that Transformed the South" and sign copies. The
book uses diaries, letters, government documents and more to paint a
picture of Southern culture just before the Civil War and then track
that culture's collapse as the war raged on and slaves won their
freedom.
Where: Union Theater, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum,
212 N. Sixth St., Springfield.
When: Wednesday, Jan. 9, with author signing books at 6:30,
speaking at 7. (Also, Levine will take part in a "Teacher Talks"
session with educators at 5:30 at the presidential library.)
