[January 07, 2013]  The newly formed Lincoln Area Running Club, or LARC, is encouraging those with new fitness goals and seasoned runners to become part of the club. The club recently became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization through the Road Runners Club of America.

"We started as a group on Facebook and saw there was a good amount of interest in the community," said Tony Newton, founding member and president. "Our main objective is to bring together a community of runners that can help each other achieve their running goals."

All ages, paces and ability levels are welcome to join LARC. The benefits of becoming a member include a 10 percent discount at Often Running in Normal, a $5 discount at LARC races and free training programs put on by the club.

LARC members also meet for weekly runs.

"We are currently meeting on Sunday mornings for group runs at 6:30 a.m.," said Newton. "But we might add more group runs or change the time depending on the needs of our members."
