[January 11, 2013]  MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves say coach Rick Adelman will remain away from the team while he tends to his wife, who has been in the hospital.

The Timberwolves made the announcement Thursday, one day after Adelman missed his second straight game. They say that his status remains day-to-day and he will return to coaching "as soon as he is able."

Adelman's wife, Mary Kay, was hospitalized earlier this week with an undisclosed ailment.

Assistant coach Terry Porter has filled in and will remain in the role until Adelman returns. The Timberwolves beat Atlanta on Tuesday night and lost in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night to start a four-game road trip.
