[January 11, 2013]  BLOOMINGTON -- The city of Bloomington's Miller Park Zoo had its highest revenue-grossing December ever in 2012.

Miller Park Zoo grossed $9,340 in revenue in December 2012, a 12.4 percent increase over the previous year. Attendance was 3,103 in December 2012, the third-best December attendance in the zoo's history, beating the 2011 number of 2,656.

Revenue from Wild Lights, the zoo's annual nighttime holiday event, along with good weather, helped to make December 2012 the highest revenue-grossing December so far. Wild Lights was expanded from one night in 2011 to two in 2012 due to the success of the inaugural event.

"Since Miller Park Zoo is open all year long, guests have the chance to get to know the animals in different ways during different seasons," explains Jay Tetzloff, zoo superintendent. "The zoo offers winter activities you just can't experience anywhere else, and I'm excited for individuals and families to enjoy that here."
