GOP committee to select replacement candidate for Lincoln Ward 1 alderman for the consolidated primary

[January 10, 2013]  In accordance with Illinois election law, a selection committee consisting of the precinct committeemen in the new Lincoln Ward 1 will interview interested and qualified candidates Monday for the position of Ward 1 alderman for the city of Lincoln. This will fill the vacancy in nomination created by the death of Orville Busby. Prior to his death, Alderman Busby had filed nominating petitions to run for the new Ward 1 alderman for the primary election.

"Alderman Busby, his leadership and commitment to service to our community will be greatly missed," said Dave Bender, Logan County Republican chairman.

The boundary lines for Ward 1 are as follows:

  • West boundaries:

    • Terrace Drive to Woodlawn Road

    • Woodlawn Road to Jackson and State Street

  • South:

    • Eighth Street to Union

    • Union to Peoria to Sangamon

  • East:

    • Sangamon to Wichita

    • Wichita to Lincoln Parkway

  • North:

    • Lincoln Parkway to Terrace Drive

A map of the new ward is also available at the city clerk's office at Lincoln City Hall.

The GOP selection committee will accept resumes from today until a deadline of 8 a.m. Friday. No resumes will be accepted after that time.

Along with the resume, the following will be needed:

  • Full legal name

  • Date of birth

  • Voting and street address, phone and cell numbers

  • Professional background

  • Membership in all clubs, organizations or civic membership in the past 10 years

  • Level of education

  • Full employment history -- past and present

  • Email addresses and social media contact addresses (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

  • Brief statement why he or she would like to serve as Ward 1 alderman

In addition, to be considered, each applicant must consent to a full legal background check.

The deadline is 8 a.m. Friday. Interviews will be conducted Monday evening.
