Promise" examines two competing philosophies through the years: a
small-government approach that defers to the private sector versus
an active government aggressively trying to stimulate the economy.

David Von Drehle will sign copies of "Rise to Greatness" on
Thursday and discuss the key year of 1862.
Who: Journalist and best-selling author David Von Drehle
What: Drehle will discuss his book "Rise to Greatness:
Abraham Lincoln and America's Most Perilous Year" and sign copies.
The book explores 1862, when Civil War violence reached new heights,
Lincoln lost a son and searched for a competent general, and
Congress looked to the future by authorizing a transcontinental
railroad and land-grant universities.
