[January 15, 2013]  A Logan County Republican committee has selected Bruce Carmitchel to fill the vacancy created by the death of Orville Busby as the Republican nominee for Lincoln City Council member from the new Ward 1.

Two Logan County Republican precinct committee members who represent Republican voters in the new ward served as the selection committee.

Jeff Short, chairman of the selection committee, was pleased with the quality of the applicants.

"We were very impressed with the credentials, background and experience of the applicants," said Short. "Unfortunately there was only one slot to fill."

Carmitchel was recently selected by Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder to fill the unexpired term for Alderman Busby's council seat. The Lincoln City Council voted unanimously to approve the appointment.
