"Talk your way to college"
is the theme of the American Legion's high school oratorical
contest. American Legion Post 263 in Lincoln is a sponsor of the
contest, providing $13,075 in scholarships for department finalists.
These scholarships may be used to attend any college, university,
junior college or vocational educational institution, within four
years after graduation from high school unless interrupted by
service in the armed forces.

The national organization provides $128,000 in scholarships to the
national finalists, semifinalists and winners in the national
finish. The purpose of the contest is to develop a deeper
knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution on the part of
high school students. Other objectives of the contest are the
development of leadership, the ability to think and speak clearly
and intelligently, and preparation for acceptance of the duties and
responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.
This is a great opportunity for any high school student in Logan
County -- freshman through senior years -- to participate for a
scholarship.
