[January 19, 2013]  McLEAN -- Not sure what birds are visiting your feeders, or just need a refresher? Join Janet Rasmussen, trained by the Grand Prairie Master Naturalist program, at a workshop to learn how to identify more than 30 winter residents as well as how to attract them. Workshop participants will also receive a log feeder and learn how to make peanut butter suet -- a favorite of woodpeckers and nuthatches.

Sugar Grove Nature Center is offering the "Backyard Bird Watching Basics & Log Feeder Workshop" on Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon.

You will also find out how you can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, scheduled for Feb. 15-18. This program is sponsored by the John Wesley Powell Audubon Society.

The workshop fee is $5 for members of the nature center and $8 for nonmembers. Registration is required. For more information or to register, phone 309-874-2174 or email register@sugargrovenaturecenter.org.
