Woods Foundation awards local schools $357,500 in technology grants

[June 26, 2013]  The board of directors of The Woods Foundation announced Monday that it has awarded a total of $357,500 in the form of technology grants to school districts that have school buildings in Logan County.

The Woods Foundation issued a solicitation to superintendents or principals of all Logan County school districts on May 9, requesting that they submit by June 3 a separate grant application for improvement of technology for each school building in Logan County. The Woods Foundation committed to providing grants of up to $20,000 for each building if their grant applications were approved.

Grant applications were submitted for all 18 school buildings in Logan County, representing 11 different school districts. The board of directors approved all applications, for a total award of $357,500.

The schools will use the grant funds for a variety of projects, including purchasing tablet devices and implementing Smart Board technology.

This is the third and final year that The Woods Foundation has solicited technology grants. Over this three-year period, The Woods Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in this effort, with the goal of helping local schools update certain aspects of their technology in order to enhance educational opportunities available to students in Logan County.

The Woods Foundation was made possible through the generosity of Robert J. Woods and Joan Jarrett Woods, who established and funded The Woods Foundation to carry on their long history of philanthropy.
