[July 08, 2013]  The Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital's Sportscare have announced that registration is open for the third annual Moving Forward 5K Run/Walk, scheduled for Oct. 12.

Runners and walkers of all fitness levels can register online at www.almh.org.

Adults who register before July 31 will receive a discounted registration of $25, which includes a men's, women's or youth size dry-fit race shirt. Registration will increase to $35 as the date gets closer. Shirts are not guaranteed for registrants after Sept. 14. Youth 12 and under are also encouraged to register for a discounted $10 fee. Parents of youth participants must be on-site at all times during the event.

New this year, a free Kid Dash will take place at 8:30 a.m. This 200-yard event is for participants 10 and under. Medals will be awarded.

At 9 a.m., rain or shine, walkers and runners of all fitness levels will take off for the 5K at Edward R. Madigan State Park. The event route meanders through grassland and woodland. All are encouraged to join friends and family and enjoy the fall scenery while being active. Last year over 200 participants took part in the event.

"Our mission is to improve the health of the people and communities we serve, and what better way than through exercise. I hope that this event encourages people of all fitness levels to get moving forward towards good health," said Todd Mourning, physical therapist and manager of rehab services at ALMH.

The event's "Stay Competitive" lead sponsor is Gehlbach Law. Other sponsors are Blue Dog Inn, Clinical Radiologists, Eaton Electrical, Illinois American Water, Nobbe Eye Care, Herrin Fertilizer and Farmers Bank of Mount Pulaski.
