[July 16, 2013]  More than 50 volunteers have come together to prepare for the first-ever family Vacation Bible School at Jefferson Street Christian Church. The VBS experience at JeffStreet begins Sunday and runs through Tuesday, from 6 to 8 each night.

The public is invited to register and attend. Families of all sizes, types, ages and stages will participate in numerous events and activities each evening. Some of the highlights are a live band, a large group games area and lending a helping hand to the community.

This year's theme is "The Walking Dead: Come Forth." It is "a theme that boldly and enthusiastically conveys that we are NEW and that God has a plan and unique purpose for each and every person," according to a news release from the church.

"In our area, families have a lot of summer VBS options to choose from," said Laura Moore, director of the Vacation Bible School. "What makes ours unique -- in addition to all the fun -- is that there's an equal emphasis on helping the kids build a spiritual foundation and being with their family. Our activities, caring volunteers and continual fun can be a positive, life-changing experience for all involved."

For children whose parents cannot attend, several volunteers will step in as "foster families" for the three-day event. All are welcome.

Registration is online at http://tinyurl.com/WalkingDead2013 or can be completed by stopping at the church office at 1700 N. Jefferson St.
