On July 23, 2013, Michael Trotter was found guilty by a jury of three counts of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, each a class 2 felony.

"We want to thank the jury for their time, attention and deliberation in this case. We are pleased with the verdict," stated Jonathan Wright, Logan County State's Attorney. The jury trial began on Monday, July 22, 2013 and concluded the next day. The jury deliberated for approximately 1½ hours before returning to court with their verdict.

The convictions arise from an investigation conducted by the Lincoln Police Department in the fall of 2012. Wright, who prosecuted the case at trial, commended the Lincoln Police officers who conducted the successful investigation. "Cpl. Matt Comstock, Det. Kerns and Det. Adams worked hard in this investigation and their hard work resulted in these convictions."

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. The range of sentence for a class 2 felony is up to 48 months of probation at a minimum or 3 to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections at a maximum. In this case, however, the State's Attorney's office has alleged that Mr. Trotter is eligible for extended term sentencing based upon his prior criminal history for a maximum possible sentence of 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
