[July 11, 2013]  Lincoln Park Join the Lincoln Park District and Chris Tice in experiencing a weeklong art camp focusing on arts from around the world and upcycling, using everyday items to create works of art. This will kick off July 15 from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Craft Room. The program is geared for grade school children and up. Learn the art of origami and papermaking from Japan. Create one of the oldest art forms, a mosaic, using broken pottery and other found objects. Try printing and bookmaking with repurposed paper goods. Learn about stained glass and make your own suncatcher from recycled items or tissue paper. Finish out the week with a variety of drawing games from Victorian England.

Chris Tice is a local artist and the impetus behind the painted viaducts in Lincoln. He is also active in local art endeavors and works with the Logan County Arts organization.

Join the Fit Zone Run-Fit running group. If you are a beginner, this will be a way to have fun as you train for a 5K (3.1 miles), or if you are already a runner, a great way to improve your time or increase speed and endurance. The group will meet in the Fit Zone on Saturday mornings at 8 during July and August, rain or shine. There will be two groups of runners and they will focus on training for the Up Up & Away 5K Run/Walk on Aug. 25. This running group is free to all Fit Zone members and $20 per person for nonmembers.

Join in the first Up Up & Away 5K on Sunday, Aug. 25. This run will be timed by the Bloomington Lake Run Club. Your bib number must be visible at the finish line to be considered for awards. Awards will be presented to the top male and female winners along with age-group winners: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. Cost for the run is $20 if registered by Aug. 16 or $25 after Aug. 16. Packet pickup with T-shirts and goodie bag will be on Friday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lincoln Park District Fit Zone or at the Sunday morning check-in from 7:30 to 8:30. Registration forms are available at the Fit Zone and from sponsors Graue Inc., Chris Coyne State Farm office and Camel's Hair'em.
