Buchanan awarded nursing scholarship by American Legion Auxiliary

[July 26, 2013]  Sara Buchanan of Lincoln was awarded a Nurses Scholarship of $1,000 at the American Legion Auxiliary Department Convention in Springfield. She was sponsored by Logan Unit 263 of the American Legion, Lincoln. Sara is the daughter of Joe and Melanie Schaler of Lincoln.

She will start her sophomore year this fall as a nursing major at Bradley University in Peoria. When she becomes a registered nurse, she plans to apply to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital in Peoria. Her goal is to become a neonatal nurse practitioner.

At Bradley, she is involved in the Student Nursing Association and Nursing Christian Fellowship. She is also a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, where she serves as house manager, assistant recruitment chair and retreat leader. She is an associate member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

She attends Lincoln Christian Church and volunteers at Northwoods Community Church. During spring break, she was a member of the Students Today Leaders Forever group, which toured several states, volunteering on community projects and homeless shelters.
