[July 31, 2013]  CAIRO (AP) -- Egypt's state news agency says an African Union delegation has met with deposed President Mohammed Morsi.

MENA said Wednesday that members of the African Union High Panel for Egypt, headed by former Mali president Alpha Oumar Konare, met Morsi for one hour. It did not provide any details.

The visit comes on the heels of EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton's talks with Morsi late Monday, which marked the deposed leader's first contact with the outside world since he was detained during Egypt's July 3 military coup. He has been held incommunicado at an undisclosed location since then.

Last week, prosecutors said Morsi is facing accusations of conspiring with the militant Palestinian Hamas group to escape from prison during the 2011 uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak.
