George Harris

[June 06, 2013]  LINCOLN -- George N. Harris, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Lincoln, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Lincoln-George N. Harris, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Lincoln passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Peasley Funeral Home,
401 Delavan St. Lincoln, IL.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Cremation Rites will be accorded following the visitation.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, Illinois with Pastor Kevin Curry officiating.

George Nelven Harris was born on April 7, 1932 in Springfield the son of Nelven and Mildred McMann Harris.

He is survived by his children: Pamela Schmidt (Springfield), Danny Harris (Springfield), Terry Harris (Mt. Pulaski), Brenda Smith (Florida), Debbie Harris (Florida), David Harris (Ohio), and Patty Harris (Decatur). His siblings: William Harris, Larry (Sonny) Harris, Dorothy (Dot) Harris, Melva (Tootie) Harris and Robert (Bob) Harris. Nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two granddaughters.

Funeral Director

George served as a Seaman Apprentice in the United States Navy from July 1, 1952 until September 13, 1954.

George was a member of Teamster's Local #627. He retired in May of 1999 as an Over the Road Truck Driver.
He had been employed as a City Bus Driver for the City of Springfield and for Crowne Transit Bus Service.
