Nominations sought for Area Agency on Aging's Dorothy S. Kimball Award

[June 08, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- Nominations are being accepted for the 2013 Dorothy S. Kimball Award, presented by the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, for outstanding accomplishment in the field of aging.

The award was established to honor individuals in the counties of Cass, Christian, Greene, Jersey, Logan, Macoupin, Mason, Menard, Montgomery, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott who work in the field of aging or on behalf of older adults or family caregivers.

Achievements that could be recognized include:

  • Adaptation or revision of programs or services to meet the current needs of older adults and their family members.

  • Public education regarding the services and benefits available to the older population and services.

  • Formal education of future workers in the field.

  • Identification of an unmet need and working to fill that need.

  • Creativity in service provision to reach people in need of the service, advocacy or legislation.

  • Outstanding service to the older population.

  • Community adaptation to help older adults remain in their own homes in the community as long as possible.

The award is named for the late Dorothy S. Kimball, who served as executive director of the Area Agency on Aging for over 25 years.

Past recipients of the award are Sherry Robinson, Ph.D., R.N.C.S; Nancy S. Nelson, M.S.; Mae Morton; Ray Wiedle; and Debbie Bailey.
