It was a long and exhausting evening for firefighters from several departments around the region last night. A fire at the Oasis Senior Center in downtown Lincoln brought in departments from as far away as Sherman and Latham. The fire that was reported around 5:30 last evening took over three hours to extinguish. To the credit of the Lincoln Fire Department and all those who assisted, the blaze did not spread to the adjacent building, which houses several business offices as well as apartments. LDN had several photographers on the ground at the scene. The photo albums below depict the fire from a variety of angles.

Brief Statement from Fire Chief Mark Miller:

"We had a big one last night, we are just now getting to look the building over. Witnesses say the lightning strike was very close. Three firefighter injuries last night two lacerations and one burn. I want to thank all agencies and private citizens for their help. We have a great community."

Miller will issue an additional statement when more details are available.
