[March 02, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- This is Friday's report of the grain prices and trends, prepared by the USDA and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Illinois country grain prices were mixed on Friday afternoon, with corn and wheat higher and soybeans lower.

Wheat futures were supported by good export interest, while technical trading at the Board of Trade weakened soybean values.

In Northern and Western Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 6 cents higher at 7.13-7.26.

Soybean bids were 6 cents lower at 14.40-14.53.

In Central Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 5 to 7 cents higher at 7.21-7.34.

Soybean bids were down 9 to 10 cents at 14.53-14.69.

In the Southern part of the state, shelled corn bids were mostly 5 cents higher at 7.08-7.45.

Soybean bids were 10 cents lower at 14.61-14.84. Wheat bids were 6 to 8 cents higher at 7.08-7.31.

Illinois grains ended mixed with corn sharply higher and wheat and soybeans lower. Corn futures gained strength from better than expected weekly export sales numbers and good export interest.

Wheat futures fell pressured by beneficial rainfall on the Plain states from two major snow storms and slow export demand. Soybean futures were pressured by technical selling at the Board of Trade and better weather conditions for the South American soybean crop.

Traders were also aware of shipping delays for the new South American soybean crop and good export interest, especially from China. These two factors helped soybean futures to rally Wednesday and Thursday.

The trading in the cash grain market was slow to moderate. Movement was enough to weaken the cash basis levels at both the river terminals and processors.

Many terminals and processors are also in the process of moving their cash basis month from March (H) to May (K).

All the corn processors moved this week so it will be impossible to measure basis for them this week.

The river terminal managers are more than pleased with the river level situation. Many barges now are up to their full drafts and delays are very few when moving grain down to the gulf ports.

The Central Illinois Soybean Processors cash bids were 22 to 26 cents lower ranging from 14.92-15.00, with basis 8 to 12 cents lower at +18H to +26H.

The Central Illinois Corn Processors cash bids were 12 to 17 cents higher ranging from 7.28-7.43, with basis ranging from +25K to +40K.

At the Illinois River terminals south of Peoria, cash corn bids ended 21 to 30 cents higher ranging from 7.28-7.43, with basis mixed at +7H to +17H.

Cash soybean bids dropped 27 to 28 cents to 14.82-14.86, with basis down 13 to 14 cents
ranging from +8H to +12H.

New crop wheat bids for delivery in July 2013 ended 11 cents lower ranging from 6.95-6.97, with basis up 1 cent at -21N to -19N.

At the Illinois River terminals north of Peoria, cash corn bids were up 23 to 24 cents at 7.23-7.26, with basis 4 to 5 cents lower at +4H to +7H.

Cash soybean bids were down 24 to 31 cents at 14.77-14.86, with basis 10 to 17 cents weaker ranging from +3H to +12H.

New crop wheat bids for July 2013 delivery fell 12 cents to range from 7.00-7.01, with basis steady at -16N to -15N.
