[March 05, 2013]  Do you care for a spouse, parent or disabled family member? Are the responsibilities wearing you out?

If so, you're invited to a free workshop, "Caring for the Caregiver," on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at The Christian Village Senior Apartments, 1500 Seventh St.

The three main topics covered will be "Take care of the total you -- mind, body and spirit"; "Laughter really is good medicine"; and "When is it time for change?"

There will be tabletop workshops on "Understanding Medicare/Medicaid," "Respite care" and "Managing medicine." These workshops will provide information caregivers might need to make their role easier, which can help reduce burnout.

Snacks, door prizes and chair massages will also be available at the workshop.

"Caregiving can be exhausting, even in the best of circumstances," noted Julie King, director of independent living services. "We're offering this workshop in part to recognize and thank family caregivers for their selflessness."
