[March 08, 2013]  Lincoln city fire and rescue calls:

Malfunctioning furnace on Tremont Street

On Feb. 17 at 7:45 p.m., the Lincoln Fire Department responded to smoke in a house at 1131 Tremont St. Upon arrival they discovered a single-story house with no fire visible but light smoke throughout the house.

The first-arriving firefighters quickly entered the house and found the source of the smoke, which is believed to have been a malfunctioning furnace. A pump can was used to put out a small fire in the furnace area of the basement of the house. Lincoln Fire Department firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District.

Fire and smoke damage to the house was estimated to be around $16,000.

The house was occupied by one person, who was taken to the emergency room at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital by Logan County Paramedics. The victim appeared to be in good condition, with minor injuries from the smoke and fire.

Mobile home fire on North Postville Drive

On Feb. 28 at 4:05 p.m., the Lincoln Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a mobile home at 1102 N. Postville Drive. The Lincoln Rural Fire Department arrived first to the scene to find heavy smoke and fire conditions in the front of the residence, extending from the door. Lincoln Rural quickly knocked down the fire, using a 1 3/4-inch handline.

Lincoln firefighters put an additional 1 3/4-inch line on the fire, established water supply and began checking for hot spots.

Damage to the residence was estimated at $40,000.

The fire displaced a family of three, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist. Two of the occupants and the family pet were home at the time of the blaze and escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire was an unattended pot on the stove.
