[March 18, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- Iconic American rock band Journey has been added to the Grandstand entertainment lineup for Aug. 18 at the Illinois State Fair. Tickets for the concert will go on sale April 27 through Ticketmaster.

Since the group's formation in 1973, Journey has earned 19 top 40 singles, including classic rock staples such as "Wheel in the Sky," "Any Way You Want It," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Separate Ways" and its signature ballad "Open Arms," and 25 gold and platinum albums. Its "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times platinum, awarding the band an elite diamond-certification. For more information, visit www.journeymusic.com.

"Our team is putting together an outstanding lineup of musical performers," said Gov. Pat Quinn, who is a huge country music fan. "From classic rock bands Journey, Styx and REO Speedwagon to country superstars Toby Keith, Gary Allan, The Band Perry and Thompson Square, this year's entertainment is going to be something you don't want to miss."

"The state fair receives a lot of suggestions, both solicited and unsolicited, about concerts it should book," added Amy Bliefnick, manager of the fair. "No performer, in my experience, has been requested more frequently than Journey. Fairgoers have been asking me for this show for eight years, and I'm pleased to announce the band has agreed to play here."
