Elizabeth 'Betty' Courtwright

[March 18, 2013]  LINCOLN -- Elizabeth J. "Betty" Courtwright, 89, of Springfield, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 12:55 p.m. at Heritage Health Nursing Home.

Lincoln- Elizabeth J. "Betty" Courtwright, 89, of Springfield, died at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday March 16, 2013, at Heritage Health Nursing Home.

Elizabeth was born on June 23, 1923, daughter of Christian E. and Leta C. Ranney Franz. She was united in marriage to Oliver M. "Doc" Courtwright on June 21, 1944 in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1979. She is survived by her son: Gary (Peggy) Courtwright of Chatham, IL; grandchildren: Kevin (Jacqui) Courtwright of Middletown, OH; Stacey Courtwright of Springfield; Jaime (fiancé Dan Russell) of Bloomington, IL; two step grandchildren: Shauni and Kelleah. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral Director

Betty worked at the Garment Factory for 25 years as a seamstress and finishing supervisor and she worked for the State of Illinois as a mental health technician for the Lincoln Developmental Center and for McFarland Zone Center, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield. Betty served our country in the WAVES during WW II. Betty was a sports enthusiast; she especially loved watching her grandchildren and Illinois basketball.

Services for Betty will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Rev. Thomas B. Christell Jr. conducting services. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Union Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield or to the American Lung Association.
