George Presswood

[March 19, 2013]  LINCOLN -- George Presswood, 83, of Lincoln, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at 3:54 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

LINCOLN-George Presswood, 83, of Lincoln, IL passed away at 3:54 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at St. Clara's Manor, Lincoln, IL.

George was born on January 14, 1930 in Pinckneyville, IL the son of Clyde and Bessie Davis Presswood. He married Virginia Rigg on November 11, 1953 in Lincoln, IL. She survives in Lincoln.

Also surviving is one son: Garron (Judy) Presswood of Broadwell, IL; one sister: Sierra Sue (Larry) Fulk of Lincoln; three granddaughters: Stacy (Caleb) Peacock of Lincoln; Brittani Kimmel of Franklin; Amanda (Deron) Logan of Tennessee, IL; one grandson: Shane Presswood of Mason City, IL; four great granddaughters and three great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Ted, Ruben, Vernus and Dwayne Presswood.

Funeral Director

George is retired from the Teamsters Union and also worked 18 years at Mitchell-Newhouse Lumber Co. as yardman and truck driver. He was a member of Lincoln Southern Baptist Church; VFW and the Teamsters Union. George served in the US Army, First Calvary, during the Korea War from 1948-1952, during which he received a Purple Heart and other citations.

Graveside services for George will be Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Cemetery, Beason, IL. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery with full military rites accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association; VFW, or Donor's Choice.
