[March 20, 2013]  Applications for the 2013 Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation Healthcare Careers Scholarship are due April 5.

Last year the foundation named Alissa Cross, of Atlanta, a scholarship recipient. A 2012 graduate of Olympia High School, Cross is currently attending Heartland Community College with plans to complete her nursing degree at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. And while it is not a requirement of the scholarship, Cross is showing her appreciation and getting to know her future co-workers by volunteering at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

"We think supporting the studies of students who have made job commitments with ALMH reflects the mission of both the foundation and the hospital," said Eric Graue, chairman of the ALHF. "This forward-thinking approach is a win-win-win situation for the hospital, the foundation and the students."

Scholarships may be awarded to students pursuing careers identified by Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital as relating to its present and future needs. Award amounts range from $10,000 for an associate degree up to $30,000 for graduate degrees. For every $2,500 awarded, the recipient is contractually obligated to a one-year employment contract at ALMH.

Graduating high school seniors, as well as students further along in their studies, are eligible to apply. Preferred career fields this year are nursing (ADN or BSN), nurse anesthesiology (CRNA), physical therapy and physical therapy assistant.
