[March 25, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- This is Friday's report of the grain prices and trends, prepared by the USDA and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Illinois country grain prices were mixed on Friday afternoon, with corn and soybean futures lower and wheat slightly higher. Technical selling at the Board of Trade weakened corn and soybean values.

Many traders are looking forward to next Thursday's release of the Quarterly Grain Stocks and Prospective Planting reports.

In Northern and Western Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 6 to 7 cents lower at 7.24-7.51.

Soybean bids were 5 to 8 cents lower at 14.27-14.45.

In Central Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 7 to 8 cents lower at 7.35-7.46.

Soybean bids were 7 to 9 cents lower at
14.51-14.64.

In the Southern part of the state, shelled corn bids were mostly 6 to 10 cents lower at 7.13-7.61.

Soybean bids were mostly 8 to 10 cents lower at 14.45-14.76. Wheat bids were 1 cent higher at 7.25-7.45.

Illinois grains ended higher this week at the Board of Trade. Wheat futures were supported by good domestic demand, but export demand was moderate to good this week.

Soybeans gained some late week strength as export prospects increased due to the slow shipping pace in South America. Corn futures remained strong, supported by strong cash markets and domestic demand.

Many grain traders are looking forward to the series of USDA reports to be released next Thursday, the 28th.

At that time the USDA will release the Prospective Planting and the much anticipated Quarterly Grain Stocks reports.

The trading in the cash grain market was slow to moderate this week.

The movement of some cash corn was noted on Wednesday, as prices had been at some of the higher levels for some time.

Movement was enough to weaken basis at many terminals and processors.

The cash soybean basis strengthened on Thursday at many river terminals due to an increase in the gulf basis.

The Central Illinois Soybean Processors cash bids were 4 to 9 cents higher ranging from 14.74-14.99, with basis down 5 to 10 cents ranging from +25K to +50K.

The Central Illinois Corn Processors cash bids were 12 to 15 cents higher ranging from 7.61-7.68, with basis 2 to 5 cents lower at +28K to +35K.

Cash soybean bids gained 13 cents to 14.65-14.70, with basis down 1 cent ranging from +16K to +21K.

New crop wheat bids for delivery in July 2013 ended 3 to 7 cents higher ranging from 7.17-7.19, with basis steady to 4 cents lower at -10N to -8N.
