Zion Lutheran students win essay contest awards

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 recently sponsored its annual Americanism Essay Contest. There were 71 essay entries from Zion Lutheran School, Carroll Catholic School and Chester-East Lincoln School. The title of the essays was "What Does the First Amendment Mean to Me?" Marlene Schrader is the auxiliary coordinator. Each of the top three winners received a certificate and a cash prize from Auxiliary Unit 263

Zion Lutheran School students won both first and second place in the contest, out of 71 entries. Isabelle Thompson won first place, and Emma Ritterbush received the second-place prize.

After winning the local contest, Isabelle's essay was next entered in the district-level competition, where she was again awarded first place. Her essay has now been entered in the American Legion division contest. Isabelle presented her essay and received her local awards at the American Legion's birthday potluck celebration.

ZLS students Kathryn Nobbe, Emma Cooper, Anna Sielaff, Gabbie Cox, Claire Conrady and Brooklyn Hermes all received honorable mention for their essays.

Sana Wahab of Carroll Catholic School received third place in the local competition..
