So, how much snow did we get? Preliminary data indicates over 1 foot in Logan County

[March 29, 2013]  Last Sunday's snow began overnight on Saturday and continued into Monday. The heaviest snowfall was on Sunday during the day and overnight. It was by far the biggest snow of the season for Logan County.

The National Weather Service has released preliminary, unofficial data reports.

Through the Significant Weather Observer Program, 13.4 inches of snow was observed at Elkhart and 13.3 inches recorded one mile southeast of Lincoln (CoCoRaHS data). Weather observers at the National Weather Service office east of Lincoln recorded 11.8 inches.

The highest snowfall amounts in central Illinois were just south and southwest of Logan County. Tied at 18.5 inches of snow were Taylorville in Christian County and Springfield in Sangamon County. Springfield also broke its more than 100-year record of 15.0 inches of snowfall in a 24-hour period, receiving 17.4 inches in 24 hours starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
