[May 16, 2013]  The athletic board of Lincoln Christian University has announced the hiring of John Merritt as the head coach for men's soccer, effective June 1.

Over the last six years, Merritt has been an integral part of the men's soccer program, assuming various roles as a player and an assistant coach. He played for the team for four years while earning his bachelor's degree from LCU. As a player, he was a starting forward and led the team in goals scored in multiple years, including his freshman year. For the last two years, he has served as an assistant coach for LCU's men's soccer team. As an assistant, he has aided in the transitioning process of two head coaches.

In addition to his coaching duties at LCU, Merritt has been involved with the FC Lincoln U-9 soccer program as an assistant coach under Tim Stuckey.

LCU Athletic Director Mac Ingmire says: "We're looking forward to the stability and excitement that John will bring to the position."
