[May 18, 2013]After a brief shower, the races were
underway Friday night at Lincoln Speedway. Track conditions were a
little "slimy," but the Lincoln Speedway officials did a fantastic job
to get the track ready for racing action after the shower.
The Lighting Sprints were in action Friday night. Hard-charging
David Baugh came home with the checkered flag after watching the
leader start losing power. Patience and persistence paid off and
sent him to the winner's circle. Billy Brickley pulled in second,
and Brent Burrows finished third.
The Street Stock feature was the
show of the night. Terry Miller in the 9 car was running behind the
20 of George Ewing for almost every lap of the race, gaining slowly
but surely. Lap after lap, he would inch closer and closer. With one
lap to go in the second, Miller looked to be taking the lead when
Ewing bumped him and Miller spun around, and Todd Smith in the No.
16 went sailing by them to victory lane.
As Todd said in the winner's circle, he got lucky. He looked to
have the faster car on the track that night but spent much of the
race trying to find a line to run where the leaders weren't, so he
could race them clean and get around them. Robert Cotton finished
second and Greg Osman third.
Modified fans saw the 14 Cashless Racing driven by Fly'n Brian
Lynn in victory lane. Lynn started third and was quickly in second
place, positioning him to take on Allen Weisser in the 25A. Weisser
spun in the second turn on the second lap, and the orange 14 took
the lead and led the rest of the pack to a single-file restart. Guy
Taylor in the 77 and Matt Goulden in the 41G were not able to escape
the bobble in the turn from Weisser, and both suffered
damage, not allowing them to finish the race.
Lynn led the rest of the way by a fourth- to a half-lap and
met fans in the winner's circle. Weisser, after going to the
back of the pack, got back to third, while Cody Bouman finished
second.
In the Pro Late Model division, Nick Lyons in the 55 took home
the checkered flag. Miles Moose in the 20 didn't have luck on his
side, as he was not able to finish due to a possible blown motor.
Evan Fink was not able to get around Nick Bauman in the B1 and
finished third, as Bauman finished second.
The Compact division -- Hornets/Wild Things, as some call them --
saw yet another new face to the winner's circle. Matt Musgrave in
the 13 held off Bob Sanders in the 3 for the win. Tyler Benson in
the B5 finished third.
