[May 21, 2013]  HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- The Lincoln College men' s and women' s track team finished their season at the 2013 NJCAA Track and Field National Championships hosted by Hutchinson College. The men' s team had two athletes finish in the top eight. Norvel Mohammed ran a school-record 46.4 in the 400 preliminaries and then a 46.6 in the finals to place seventh in the nation. Steven Hartzel jumped a personal-record 6.90 meters in the long jump, which is third all-time for Lincoln College, to place eighth in the nation.

Head track coach Brian Herron said:

"I was very excited the way most of our athletes finished their season. Norvel and Steven placing in the top eight was icing on the cake. Almost all of our athletes had their best times or distances this weekend. The level of competition was amazing and our kids stepped up to the challenge.

"It was tough watching these sophomores at their last race. They are an incredible group of young men and women. They have been back-to-back Region 24 winners in both indoor and outdoor. Many of them have help rewrite our track record books with their performances. I am very proud of them.

"We have some great recruits coming in, and with the current freshman that we have, we expect to have even more athletes qualify and place at the national meet next year. The bar has been set high for future generations of track and field athletes here at Lincoln."
