SPRINGFIELD -- Children have a
chance to transform into Civil War soldiers, doctors and aid workers
June 7 at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site as part of the
annual Civil War Medical Encampment.
|
The weekend encampment runs from June 7 to 9. It kicks off with
Education Day, when children can learn what it was like to care for
the injured during the Civil War. Sessions are planned for 10 a.m.
and 2 p.m., and each includes six interactive activities. The free
activities are fun for individuals, families or youth camps.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling 217-558-8911 or
emailing
mike.burke@illinois.gov. This popular program fills up quickly,
so make reservations as soon as possible.
The Civil War Medical Encampment is sponsored by Memorial Medical
Center, the Old State Capitol Foundation and the Illinois Historic
Preservation Agency.
It kicks off a summer schedule of "History Comes Alive"
programming in downtown Springfield. Details can be found at
