[May 22, 2013]  Senior awards were announced last week at Lincoln Community High School.

2013 Hursh Memorial Scholarship

The Oliver C. and Roberta M. Hursh Memorial Scholarship, $13,800 each: co-valedictorians Daniel Bacon and Sara Shane

Daniel, son of James Bacon and Kimberly Shoultz, plans to attend Illinois College. Sara, daughter of Douglas and Michelle Shane, plans to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago.

They are the second recipients of the Oliver C. and Roberta M. Hursh Memorial Scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Hursh did not have any children of their own, but education remained very important to the two of them. It was their belief that our society is doing too little to encourage the real achievers among us. For the next 19 years, the valedictorian and salutatorian of Lincoln Community High School will each receive 25 percent of the annual earned income of a trust.
