[May 24, 2013]  STANFORD -- The Olympia Ministerial Alliance awards scholarships each year to area seniors at graduation. At the Olympia baccalaureate service on May 17, the ministerial group presented two awards of $1,000 each. This year's winners of the Scott Ewing Memorial Senior Scholarship are Garrett Kelson and Jayson Meyer.

Garrett is the son of Robert and Christy Kelson of Danvers. Garrett will attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the fall and intends to study athletic training. Jayson is the son of Jay and Becky Meyer of McLean. Jayson will attend Lincoln Christian University to study Christian ministry.

The scholarship is named in honor of Scott Ewing, a youth minister from Minier who invested great time and concern in area young people. He was tragically killed in an automobile accident in December of 2004.

This scholarship seeks to honor graduating seniors from Olympia High School who exemplify their Christian life and character at school, their church, within their community and with their life goals.

The scholarship committee was fortunate to have many fine applicants to review. It is the hope and intent of the ministerial group that the awards will be an encouragement to the young people as they pursue their future plans. The Olympia Ministerial Alliance congratulates these young people on their lives and achievement.

The scholarship is funded by donations from churches, church-related groups and individuals in the Olympia area. Without their help, the scholarship would not be possible.

Anyone interested in donating to the scholarship fund may send their contribution to the Scott Ewing Scholarship Fund, c/o Pastor Kurt Walker, Hopedale Mennonite Church, 5192 Hopedale Road, Hopedale, IL 61747. For more information, call 217-648-2464.
