Saturday morning bright and early, more than 40 people gathered at the Open Arms Christian Fellowship for the first-ever Family Fun Day 5K run.

The run was a fundraiser to help support the annual Family Fun Day the church hosts at Scully Park each summer.

This year the Family Fun Day is scheduled for July 20 and will feature rock singer John Schlitt, along with many family and kid-friendly activities. The event is free to the public.

On Saturday, runners lined up in front of Lincoln Junior High School, just a few yards from the Open Arms church. The race began with a pistol-shot start. Sixteen minutes and 50.08 seconds later, Jackson Johnson was the first competitor to cross the finish line, more than  three minutes ahead of all others.

Johnson was awarded the best overall trophy during the pancake breakfast that followed the race.
