As the morning assembly neared a close, the school choir sang a moving song entitled "American Tears."

The audience was then invited to join the students in the singing of "America the Beautiful," accompanied by the school band.

Afterward, veterans were invited to stand up and say a few words about their time in service. Four veterans took the opportunity to share abbreviated stories about their times in the military and the conflicts they were engaged in.

The closing was offered by Zion Lutheran Pastor Mark Thompson, who is also a veteran.

After the assembly was over, all the veterans in attendance were asked to gather for a commemorative group photo.
