Lincoln Daily News welcomes letters of appreciation, information and opinion on matters pertaining to the community.

Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

Time to praise educators next week: American Education Week

Send a link to a friend

To the editor:

American Education Week will be celebrated Nov. 18-22 in schools across America. As a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, I am encouraging the community to use this opportunity to celebrate education and to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education.

Remember, it's not just the teachers who make a difference in a student's life, so don't forget the superintendent and office staff, the principal and staff, cafeteria workers, librarians, bus drivers, custodians, etc. They each help in their own way to guide our children while they are in school.

Students in this area excel in academic and school activities. They take such an important part in our community. American Education Week is a time we can give back to the schools what they give us year-round.

You, as a citizen, can promote American Education Week in a number of ways. Write thank-you notes to school personnel. Take homemade treats or a basket of apples to the teachers' lounge, volunteer in the classroom, or host a luncheon with school personnel. These are just a few ideas; the possibilities are endless.

[to top of second column in this letter]

The American Legion family has a long-standing interest in and commitment to American education and is proud to co-sponsor American Education Week. Our scholarships help students make their college dreams come true.

American Education Week is for everyone. Many have not visited their own schools since their own graduation from high school. Take time to visit the school of your choice.

Help to observe this week to praise all those who contribute to the future of our nation ... OUR YOUTH.
