High wind the cause of accident on I-155

[November 17, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- At 4:37 p.m. Sunday, the Illinois State Police released the following information regarding a rollover crash on Interstate 155 at the 4 mile marker in Logan County.

WHAT: Personal injury rollover traffic crash from straight-line winds

WHERE: Interstate 155 northbound; north of mile post 4 (Logan County)

WHEN: Nov. 17 at 11:53 a.m.

VEHICLES: Unit 1 – 2013 Freightliner truck tractor

DRIVER: Driver Unit 1 – Robert Lee Davis, 54-year-old male, Williard, Mo.

Passenger: Passenger Unit 1 – Walter Johnson, 57-year-old male, Graff, Mo.

PRELIMINARY: Unit 1 (truck tractor semitrailer) was traveling Interstate 155 northbound, north of mile post 4. A flat-line wind pushed Unit 1 onto the shoulder, causing the trailer to overturn. The tractor continued into the east ditch and overturned. The tractor and trailer came to rest on its passenger side in the east ditch. The driver and passenger of Unit 1 were transported to OSF Peoria via Lincoln/Logan EMS for treatment of injuries that occurred from the crash. Davis had minor injuries and Johnson had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. RBC Towing removed the vehicle from the scene. Interstate 155 had lane closures for approximately three hours.

CHARGES: No charges
