Both men's and women's teams saw action in the last day of the
four-team classic, and both watched their leads dissolve as the
Saints of Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College surged over them.
LCU's women led for much of the first half, with brief trades of the
lead as the Saints got up by a few points, but the Red Lions managed
to come back and in the second half were ahead by as much as 13.
That was the peak, however, as Hillsdale started their surge. The
Saints took 15 minutes to whittle the lead away and took control for
good with only three minutes left to play. In the end, the Red Lions
would be on the short end of the 75-68 score line.
The LCU women were led in scoring by senior Moriah Kirkpatrick
with 28 points, followed by sophomore Tatiana Colclasure with 25
points.
The men's team also battled against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist
and led for much of the first half, but they lost the lead in the
dwindling minutes before the half. LCU spent the rest of the game
chasing, as the Saints controlled the rest of the game. Both teams
enjoyed a nine-point lead on opposite ends of the game, but it was
the Saints with the win in the end at 80-70.
[to top of second column] |
Texas native David Graves led the LCU men's balanced offense
by scoring 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds, but it
wasn't enough to overcome the dominant 36-point game of
Hillsdale's Phil Carey.
The LCU teams traveled home this weekend, and the women will
prepare for a trip to St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Monday. The
men's team prepares to travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., for the NCCAA
Mid-West Region Tip-off on Thursday.
