Mackelmore, Timberlake up for top AMA prize

[October 10, 2013]  NEW YORK (AP) --   Newcomers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will battle heavyweights Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift for the top prize at the 2013 American Music Awards.

Rihanna and Bruno Mars will also compete for artist of the year. Kelly Clarkson and will.i.am announced some of the nominees Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

The AMAs will take place Nov. 24 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Miley Cyrus and Imagine Dragons will perform.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "Thrift Shop" is up for a new award, single of the year. Robin Thicke's ubiquitous "Blurred Lines" and Florida Georgia Line and Nelly's "Cruise" is also up for the award.

Swift, Rihanna and Pink are nominated for favorite female artist-pop/rock. Timberlake, Thicke and Miguel are up for favorite male artist-soul/R&B.
