Peoria and Springfield tie record for earliest snow

[October 25, 2013]  Gloves and other dress for winter weather were in order to keep warm for those out early this fall morning. In Lincoln, the thermometer read a frigid 22 degrees at 7 a.m. as the first hard freeze gripped the area.

According to National Weather Service records, cities north and south of Lincoln tied records Thursday evening for earliest snowfall.

In Peoria, a trace of snow was recorded at 4:47 p.m. Peoria's old record was set in 1937.

Simultaneously, at 4:47 p.m., Springfield also recorded trace snowfall, tying that city's 1962 record.

A warming trend is expected to bring temps up for the next couple of days, with a dip on Sunday, but warming and rain early next week.
