[October 31, 2013]  CLINTON -- In celebration of the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's national Thanksgiving Proclamation, the Lincoln Heritage Committee of DeWitt County will host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a program on Nov. 14 at the Clinton United Methodist Church.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served in the Great Hall of the church, 308 E. Main St. in Clinton, at 6:30 p.m.

The meal will be catered by Hilltop Catering of Mount Pulaski. The menu, based on recipes from the 1860s era, will include roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, traditional dressing, creamy coleslaw, copper carrots, baked corn, dinner rolls, and pumpkin custard with whipped cream.

Special guests and presenters of the evening program will be Max and Donna Daniels of Wheaton, portraying Abraham and Mary Lincoln. Larry Buss, manager of the DeWitt County Museum, will portray C.H. Moore, fellow attorney and friend to Lincoln.

President Lincoln proclaimed the holiday on Oct. 3, 1863. The country had observed Thanksgiving on various dates for many years, but his proclamation set the fourth Thursday of November as the date for the entire nation to celebrate the bounty of the harvest season.
