MOUNT PULASKI -- The first Mount Pulaski Courthouse Halloween night was a big success, with parents and grandparents bringing their children to enjoy pumpkin painting, spooky storytelling, games, cookies, cider, and for the less timid ones, the outdoor spooky maze.

The recently formed (2012) Mount Pulaski Courthouse Foundation sponsored the event to "give back to the community" in appreciation for their support with all the donations that have been pouring in for the maintenance and refurbishing of the courthouse. The event also served to further their ongoing quest to heighten awareness of this state historic site. Mount Pulaski was the Logan County seat (1848-1855) to which Abraham Lincoln, Judge David Davis, Stephen A. Douglas and other Illinois 8th Judicial Circuit lawyers traveled by horseback or horse and buggy to bring the court of  law to the people.

The courthouse is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
