Some Allegiant Air flights delayed, canceled

[September 21, 2013]  (AP) -- Allegiant Air says it's delaying and canceling some flights over the next several days while it inspects the evacuation slides on its planes.

The airline isn't saying how many flights will be affected.

Allegiant said Friday that up to 30 McDonnell-Douglas MD-80 planes will be removed from service so that crews can inspect the slides and make sure they comply with federal safety rules. A spokeswoman said the airline would provide more details later in the day.

The airline specializes in flying leisure travelers from secondary airports to vacation destinations such as Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla.

It's owned by Allegiant Travel Co. The Las Vegas-based parent company's shares slipped 81 cents to $102.18 in midday trading.
